Wonki literally means: not perfectly round. It is precisely this characteristic that forms the heart of Wonki Ware. The slight irregularity, combined with the unique colors and patterns, makes each piece of tableware unique—no two plates or bowls are ever exactly alike.
Each piece of Wonki Ware is formed, painted, and glazed entirely by hand , passing through the hands of no fewer than 18 dedicated hands . Around 70 ceramicists , many from disadvantaged families, work in the studio today , contributing with pride and craftsmanship to each object. Thus, each plate or bowl tells not only an aesthetic story but also a human and social one .
